Alicea Charamut, Executive Director

Alicea Charamut photo

Prior to joining Rivers Alliance in May 2019, she was the River Steward for the Connecticut River Conservancy. While her career began working in genomics during the height of the Biotech boom, she found an outlet for her passion for rivers through Trout Unlimited serving in various roles at the chapter and state level. As a fly angler, paddler and rower, water is as central to her play as it is her work.

Alicea also serves as a volunteer in several capacities as Secretary of the Fisheries Advisory Council, a member of the Connecticut Council on Environmental Quality, and on the Advisory Board of the Connecticut Institute of Water Resources. She is also the Co-Chair of the Water Planning Council Advisory Group.

Alicea holds a B.S. in Biological Sciences from the University of Connecticut. She resides in Newington with her husband, Bob, children, Sean and Dannan, and their beloved dog Lizzie.

In Memoriam: Margaret Miner

It is with incredible sadness that we share the news of the passing of Margaret Miner. She passed away on Sunday, May 5th, peacefully and surrounded by her family.

Margaret leaves an incredible legacy through her lifetime of fighting for better environmental policy, environmental rights, and overall fairness and justice in all of our public processes.

Margaret served as Executive Director from 2001-2019 and continued her work here as a valued consultant. She continued to effectively engage on water planning efforts and the legislative session right up to her last days. It’s comforting to know that while her physical body may have been failing, her mind and spirit were still very strong.

If you are reading this, you most likely are a friend of Rivers Alliance because of Margaret and she has a special place in your heart. We share your grief. Her legacy will live on through our collective work to continue building on the solid foundations laid by Margaret.

It will be several weeks before a proper memorial gathering will be announced. We ask for your patience as her family takes the time they need.

In Memoriam: Marty Mador

It is with great sorrow that we pass along the news that Marty Mador passed on June 21, 2023.

Marty joined the board of Rivers Alliance in 2002 and was always the life of our board meetings and gatherings. His commitment, passion, intellect, and high regard in the environmental and conservation community served so many organizations and Connecticut’s environment well for many decades.

Marty is someone who will live a long time in our thoughts and spoken remembrances.
